It was expected all summer long, and now it’s official. Rockingham County is back in the cross hairs of a public health threat from Eastern Equine Encephalitis, state health officials said.
Yesterday, the public health department announced the state’s first 2009 confirmed case of EEE. A baby alpaca tested positive for the disease, according to Dr. Sherry Burrer of the health department. The alpaca died Aug. 10 in Rockingham County, Burrer said.

“I don’t want to do all of the work,” he laughed. “I want to raise alpaca or something. You know, make my own alpaca coating.”
